What do we mean by a transition to the Cloud?
First of all, remember that the cloud is an architecture, not a consumption model. You can be in a cloud based architecture under a CAPEX model, and on the reverse, be full on premises running under OPEX. The two things are separated even though, in most of the cases, cloud and something as a service will come together.
As a company, you have 3 potential clouds you can play with : the private cloud (aka data center), the public cloud on the bottom right which is located into the internet and potentially accessible to anyone (i.e., Amazon or Google) and an hybrid version of it, put in place by a so called cloud broker such as a Service Provider or a Managed/Hosted Services provider. Moreover, you can even blend some of the three to accommodate your specific requirements.
These clouds can be exclusive for you (unlikely for the public cloud though) or shared with other companies.
Our philosophy is to offer you the choice. The choice of any cloud based architecture, single or blended, complemented by consumption models which will enable On-Demand, Pay Per Use or As A Service models when it makes sense.
As networks and applications shift to the cloud & consumption models change, it is imperative to deliver simple, flexible, elastic services.
On demand becomes the norm, as the IT budgets shrink, traction for pay-as-you-go or OPEX-based models grow. In our recent survey, TCO and OPEX/CAPEX costs were top of mind for enterprises and business partners everywhere – especially in the network space.
So IT are in a bind where they have to rethink the network to accommodate the explosion of traffic as well as the requirement for ubiquitous access to almost everything that accelerates with the shift to the cloud while at the same time save investment and TCO costs as well as be concerned about the user experience, mobility and BYOD momentum as well as issues such as policy management and security. It is not easy being IT!
The shift to the cloud with Personal Cloud Solutions that help channel partners and enterprise end users accommodate a new way of delivering and consuming applications and services. These changes are from the consumer world, fueled by the rapid adoption of smart phones and tablets, as well as the broad use of applications stores. Acting as an overlay on any kind of communication and network solutions, it requires no initial investment and is delivered in a pay-as-you-go model.
